By means of tinted soap, brushes, wipers and the window as a canvas, Line Boogaerts (1986, Belgium)puts a layer over reality. Her drawings obstruct the view or, on the contrary, highlight the landscape or interior and thus transform the vision of the whether or not accidental passer. Boogaerts' work is created in situ by outward impulses and her inner responses to this, resulting in a game of construction and deconstruction. In the course of the exhibition she adds paint and wipes it away.
This focus on temporality – the appearing and disappearing image – can also be found in her video work. She exposes the continuity between the different stages of a drawing. At the same time she pushes the background to the front, by, also literally, framing it. In whatever form, Bogaerts' work disorients and provokes thought about the different layers that influence the constructed perception of our environment.
