Kunsthal Gent is a new presentation and development platform for visual art. Between the thirteenth-century walls of the former Provincial Museum Caermersklooster in Ghent, a new organization with a new program took shape over the past few months.
In the weekend of Friday 25 to Sunday 27 January 2019, the doors will open with the first-ever series of exhibitions. Entrance is free.
During the opening weekend you can see work by: Thomas Min & Egon Van Herreweghe (Leuven, Ghent), Prem Krishnamurthy (New York), Olivier Goethals (Ghent), Steve Van den Bosch (Antwerp), Kunsthalle São Paulo - Rein Dufait (Ostend), CCA Glasgow - Gordon Douglas (Glasgow) & Ash Reid (London), Croxhapox, Art Cinema OFFoff and das Kunst.
On Friday 25 January everyone is welcome at the festive inauguration of Kunsthal Gent. From 5 pm onwards you can discover the presentations from local and international artists and partners.
At 20.00 hrs Kunsthal Gent will be officially opened with:
- Arno Van Roosmaelen (NL), director Stroom Den Haag, on the city as a metaphor for Kunsthal Gent
- Sami Souguir, Alderman for Culture, Urban Development and Spatial Planning
- Prem Krishnamurthy (US), exhibition maker, with a plea for endless exhibitions
After the official part the exhibitions will be open and there will be performances by Gordon Douglas and Ash Reid (UK) and Art Cinema OFFoff will introduce their program for Kunsthal Gent.
The bar will be open continuously. Snacks are provided by Lokaal. DJ's Mathieu Serruys & Joris Verdoodt and Cosy Cozy conclude the evening with a party.
