"Are there only mountains?"
"Is that not enough?"
Saar De Buysere shows cropping mountain views and landscapes in the form of sculptures and drawings. As an experienced mountain guide she shows you all perspectives and in her three-dimensional work she shows you the top view and a view of the cross section. She creates mobile mountains to enjoy a mountain view at any time and any place.
Shadow makes a mountain view at any time of the day unique. Silhouettes of a famous postcard mountain are recognizable if you show them at their best, then you walk across your preconception marred to another side. Postcards and mountain views in homes are the product of famous cut-outs of a landscape. The mountain as economic, touristy and geological object. An ordeal for fauna and flora.
Imagine: You take a balanced picture of a mountain view, suddenly a deer runs through that vision. Is that part of the (new) view or will you take the picture again? Has the picture failed because the magic light of that cloud has gone?
Or does the deer make the photo unique? Just like your lover who posing in front of a mountain as the ultimate proof of your connected presence.
In her drawings, Saar De Buysere fills scratches and underlines with graphite pencil. The crystals she mattifies through a secret process. Her devoted patience when drawing shows a deep concentration and passion.
Sometimes magnificent antlers grow out of a mountain top. The mountain is transformed into a deer with a mountain pine coat. This mountain walks in its own mountaintop.
For the sculptures she uses home, garden and kitchen stuff, a mix of cut flowers, sand, newspapers, coffee, salt, earth ... which results in a real eruption of experiment. The layers and intrusions show how this sculpture came about. But you keep wondering what materials and what proportions play a part. Only an examination in a laboratory could give us certainty.
Do you want a unique new view of your piece of the planet? De Buysere designed devices that can realize this dream, such as Dürer's instrument for mathematical precision in the anatomical drawing.
